When you register for and use SGZ Chat, we collect certain information about you in order to provide, improve, and personalise our services. The types of information we collect include:

Registration Data: Your first name, last name, username, password, date of birth, and gender, which you provide when creating an account.

Profile Information: Optional details you choose to add to your profile, such as your address, phone number, about-me text, education, relationship status, and social media handles.

Profile Photo: Any profile picture or other photos you upload to the platform.

Communications: Messages, comments, posts, jokes, and marketplace ads you create or send through the platform.

Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the site, including pages visited, features used, and time spent, collected automatically via server logs.

Device & Technical Data: Your IP address, browser type, operating system, and device identifiers, collected automatically when you access SGZ Chat.

You are in control of the optional profile fields. Filling them in enriches your profile but is never required to use the core features of SGZ Chat.

We use the information we collect to operate and continually improve SGZ Chat. Specifically, we use your data to:

Create and manage your user account and authenticate your identity when you log in.

Enable core social features — posting, commenting, liking, friending (Connecting), private messaging, and photo sharing.

Display your profile information to other registered members of the platform.

Send you in-platform notifications about activity relating to your account (new messages, friend requests, likes, and comments).

Power the SGZ Open Market so you can post, browse, and respond to free ads.

Monitor and enforce our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service to maintain a safe environment.

Analyse aggregate, anonymised usage trends to understand how SGZ Chat is being used and to guide platform improvements.

Respond to your support requests, complaints, or inquiries submitted via the Complain Box or email.

We do not sell your personal data to any third party, advertiser, or data broker. Your information is used solely to provide you with the SGZ Chat experience.

SGZ Chat does not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

With Other Members: Profile information you make public (name, photo, location, bio) is visible to other registered SGZ Chat members. Private messages are only visible to the sender and recipient.

Service Providers: We may engage trusted third-party providers (e.g., hosting providers, SMS notification services) who process data strictly on our behalf and under confidentiality agreements.

Legal Compliance: We may disclose information when required by law, court order, or government authority in Nigeria or other applicable jurisdictions.

Safety & Security: We may share information when we believe in good faith it is necessary to prevent fraud, abuse, or harm to any person or to protect the integrity of the platform.

Business Transfer: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of SGZ Chat assets, user data may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via a prominent notice on the site before your data is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

Be mindful that any information you voluntarily post publicly — such as comments, jokes, marketplace ads, or profile details — can be seen by all visitors to SGZ Chat, including guests who are not logged in.

Your data is stored on servers that power the SGZ Chat platform. We take security seriously and have implemented measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

Passwords are stored in hashed form and are never stored or transmitted in plain text.

We use server-side session management to authenticate users and prevent unauthorised account access.

Access to the database and backend systems is restricted to authorised personnel only.

We encourage users to choose strong, unique passwords and to always log out after using shared or public devices.

No method of data transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you suspect unauthorised access to your account, please contact us immediately.

We retain your personal data for as long as your account remains active. If you request account deletion, we will remove your personal data from our active systems within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it by law.

SGZ Chat uses cookies and similar session technologies to operate the platform and improve your experience. A cookie is a small text file stored in your browser that helps us remember your session and preferences.

Session Cookies: Used to keep you logged in during your visit. These are deleted when you close your browser or click Logout.

Visitor Counter: We use a simple session-based counter to track the number of visits to certain pages (such as the Jokes page). This data is stored in aggregate and is not linked to your personal identity.

Preference Cookies: We may store lightweight preferences (such as your last-visited page) to improve your navigation experience.

Most browsers allow you to control or disable cookies through their settings. Note that disabling cookies may affect your ability to log in and use key features of SGZ Chat.

SGZ Chat does not use advertising cookies, cross-site tracking, or analytics platforms such as Google Analytics on our platform.

You have meaningful rights and controls over your personal information on SGZ Chat:

Access & Review: You can view the personal information stored in your account at any time by visiting your Profile page.

Update & Correct: You can edit your profile information, contact details, and profile picture at any time through the Edit Profile section.

Delete Content: You can delete your own posts, photos, jokes, and marketplace ads at any time.

Account Deletion: You may request that your account and all associated personal data be permanently deleted by contacting us via the contact details in Section 10. We will process your request within 14 days.

Opt Out of Notifications: You can manage your notification preferences from within your account settings.

Data Portability: You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you in a common electronic format by contacting us.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the email address provided in Section 10. We will respond to all legitimate requests within 30 days.

SGZ Chat is intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 18.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us immediately at the address in Section 10. We will investigate and, if confirmed, promptly delete the child's information from our records.

If we discover that a user is under 18, we reserve the right to terminate their account and remove all associated data without prior notice.

SGZ Chat may contain links to external websites, the SGZ Android App hosted on AppGeyser, and third-party marketplace listings. Please be aware that these external sites and services are governed by their own privacy policies.

We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for, the content, privacy practices, or policies of any third-party sites or services linked from SGZ Chat. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of any site you visit before providing your personal information.

Links to social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, WhatsApp, etc.) that you add to your profile are external services; interacting with them is governed by their own terms.

The SGZ Android App (AppGeyser) is a separate product and may collect device-level data governed by AppGeyser's own privacy policy.

Marketplace sellers are independent individuals; any direct transactions or contact with them are at your own risk.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or for other operational reasons. When we make changes, we will:

Post a prominent notice on the SGZ Chat platform notifying logged-in members of the update.

For material changes that significantly affect your rights, we will send an in-platform notification to all active users.

Your continued use of SGZ Chat after the revised policy takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not agree with any changes, you may request account deletion as described in Section 6.
